We give thanks to God Almighty for the gifts of our beloved Congregation, especially, for inspiring her to create Regions that represent the Superior General and Councils of which Europe Region is one of them.
The Europe Region was created in 2009 under the leadership of Sr. M. Resurrecta Nzeribe (2009-2012), Sr. Genitrix Okite (2012-2018) and Sr. Rosecarmel Umah (2018 till date). This Region is made up of seven countries namely: Austria, Belgium, England, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Sweden but under the umbrella of three councils, namely: German, Italian, and UK/Ireland Councils.
On the 6th of October, 2018, Sr. Rosecarmel was elected into the office as the 3rd Regional Superior together with three councilors namely Sr. M. Chima Milliscent Echeta (UK/Ireland council), Sr. M. Remigius Onuoha (German council) and Sr. M. Elvira Onyemaobi to pilot the affairs of this Region. To date, she is serving her second Tenure as the Regional Superior with three councilors namely: Sr. M. Bernadette Onwuzuruigbo (UK/Ireland Council), Sr. M. Remigius Onuoha (German Council) and Sr. M. Callista Okeagwu (Italian Council).
Like a grain of mustard seed, Europe Region has continued to grow tremendously because the sisters in this region are divinely endowed with many gifts and talents. God Almighty has made them to be Doctors, Midwives, Nurses, physiotherapists, Social workers, Teachers, and Pastoral workers, to mention but a few, and may God be praised. Through the cooperative work of Sisters and with the Superior General and Councils' approval, Europe Region has successfully accomplished the 2015 General Chapter mandate of establishing a Regional House in Rome. The said house was given to the
DMMM Congregation by the Religious Congregation of Franciscan Cappuccine Friars and was officially opened on 3rd of May 2021 in the Diocese of Albano, Rome. Worthy to underscore that through the collective contributions from German and UK/Ireland councils, the Regional House has to an extent reached its standard atmosphere of living.
Today, the DMMM Europe Region has immensely grown into 30 communities, including the Regional House in Rome. German Council has 14 communities in 4 European countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, and Sweden with
57 Sisters, Italy has 8 communities with 38 Sisters, and the UK/Ireland has
48 Sisters, making an overall total number of one hundred and forty-three Sisters in Europe including the sister students and those in sabbatical leaves. In terms of currency, the above-mentioned seven countries operate with Euro except for the UK which operates with pounds sterling, and kroner for Sweden.
Tremendously, the Europe Region through their apostolates has been active in representing the Congregation in their various councils.
