Onitsha Region, Nigeria

Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy Onitsha Region came into being after the election of the Regional Superiors and their Councillors at their various Regions in 2006. The Pioneer Regional Superior of Onitsha was Rev. Sr Mary Eustis Awiaka.

At the time of the inauguration of the regions, there was not yet a regional house for the Onitsha region; therefore, DMMM Community Fegge was used as a temporary Regional House. As God may have it, at the official request by the then Regional Superior, Sr Mary Eustice Awiaka, the Archdiocese of Onitsha gave us a portion of land out of the land given to them by the family of Umuademe of Uruasowa in Uruowuru Village, Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area. On 15th March 2008, the land was blessed for the building of the Regional House by His Grace Most Rev Valerian Okeke before the whole sisters in the region. The Regional House was completed, blessed and officially opened on the 16th of March 2015 by Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke with Rev Mother Casimir Nwadiukwu as the Superior General. It was a celebration of great joy attended by some priests, our sisters, the parishioners, and other guests.

Presently, the Onitsha Region is made of thirty-one (31) communities in ten Archdioceses/dioceses (Onitsha Archdiocese, Awka, Ekwuluobia, Nnewi, Enugu, Abakiliki, Nsukka, Benin, Issele-Uku, Uromi) with a total number of one hundred and fifty-five (155) sisters.

  1. DMMM Event Planning Out-fit Achina: This is a project owned by the Congregation. It is for planning, decorating and serving at different events e.g. weddings, birthdays, burials, Jubilee, Anniversaries etc.
     
  2. Opus Divina, Enugu: They produce different types of food items in dry form, e.g. corn, pap, cocoyam etc. Plans are on the way to relocate this project to the Generalate.

  3. Pastoral services at the Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigerian which is owned and run by Fr Mbaka.
